Pregnancy is a special estate for women and it alters their emotional stability and brings on personality changes, in addition to a series of new experiences. From the time of conception, a large number of changes take place in both the body and mind of the expectant mother.
• Yoga can play a crucial role in this road to birth. Even those who have not practiced yoga before will find out that yoga postures improve their physical state and that they feel much better. Breathing and relaxation exercises give you more tranquillity and security.
• Practicing yoga is also advisable for those women who are trying to conceive or, even, for women who have conception problems.
The anxiety caused by the desire to conceive a child is one of the largest obstacles.
• Yoga lessons for pregnant women combine conscious breathing exercises, relaxation, concentration, visualization, the postures known as asanas and positive thinking.
• With the practice of asanas, we learn to concentrate on our own breathing. That is how we can establish our rhythm: faster or slower, deep or superficial, which is reflected in our emotional, physical or mental state. And, the reverse is also true: our breathing rhythm is affected by our emotional, physical and mental state.
• Through yoga, the expectant mother learns to use her breathing to relax, to give herself up to that moment, by accepting, without resistance, each contraction, which brings her closer to her baby. The mother will be able to adapt her breathing to the need of the moment. She learns to adopt an active, cooperative and conscious attitude; to trust her own body and the process that is occurring inside her.
• Relaxation techniques and breathing help the woman distend the uterus and the foetus feels better since it has more room to move.
• The perineum muscles must be stretched at the end of the labour in order to help the baby out. The more the muscles are relaxed, the more they will be able to stretch.
• Yoga reduces the usual pregnancy problems and helps mothers have a better labour and recover quickly from it. In addition to this, yoga reduces backaches, including sciatica and lumbago pains.
• The practise of yoga during pregnancy do not guarantee an easy or painless labour because it depends on each body, your family history, your personal situation, psychological and emotional; but you will be able to enjoy a full enriching experience, having plenty of self-confidence.
• Thanks to yoga, the mother will be able to connect with her baby in a more profound manner and to strengthen the relationship with her future child, to be open and trust intuition. Future fathers will also experience the birth in a more active and conscious manner, being a great support for the future mother and cheering her up. They are welcome to join in the yoga class.
